Chairman – Shariah Board

Mufti Muhammad Ibrahim Essa is a well-known recognized Shariah Scholar in the field of Islamic Banking and Takaful. He has completed his Darse Nizami (Masters in Quran and Sunnah) and Takhassus fil Ifta (Specialization in Islamic Jurisprudence) from Jamiah Darul Uloom Karachi. Currently he is working as Teacher and Member of Darul Ifta Jamiah Darul Uloom Karachi.

Mufti Ibrahim Essa is associated as Chairman Shariah Board of United Bank Limited. He has also served as Chairman Shariah Board Zarai Taraqiati Bank Limited, Member Shariah Board-Habib Metropolitan Bank Limited, The Bank of Khyber and Sindh Bank. He was associated with Ernst & Young Ford Rhodes Sidat Hyder & Co as Shariah Advisor from 2007 to 2015. Mufti Ibrahim Essa is also serving as Shariah Advisor/Shariah Board Member for number of Islamic Financial Institutions both domestic and international including Kyrgystan Commercial Bank, Algbra UK, Atrium Underwriting Syndicate-Lloyds of London and EFU Takaful. He has also written more than five thousand Fatawas on different topics.

Shariah Board Member

Mufti Imtiaz Alam completed his dissertation on Islamic jurisprudence with outstanding record throughout his academic career. He has completed Shadatul A'alamiyyah in 2005 and Al Takhassus Fil Ifta (Specialization in Islamic Jurisprudence) in 2008 from Jamia Darul Uloom, Karachi. Besides Islamic education, he has done his Bachelor and Masters in Commerce from University of Karachi.

Mufti Imtiaz Alam is associated with Takaful industry since 2009 in the capacity of Shariah Advisor. He is currently providing Shariah consultancy services to UBL Insurers Window Takaful and HBL Insurance Window Takaful as Member Shariah Board. He is associated with UBL Ameen since July 2019. Prior to taking charge as Member Shariah Board with effect from July 1, 2021, he has served in the capacity of Resident Shariah Board Member UBL Ameen.

Mufti Imtiaz Alam is also a visiting faculty member of Sheikh Zayed Islamic Center - University of Karachi since 2014 where he is teaching courses in Islamic Banking & Finance for post graduate students.

Resident Shariah Board Member

Mufti Muhammad Awais Naeem has completed Dars-e-Nizami from Jamia Ashrafia Lahore and specialization in Islamic Jurisprudence (Al Takhassus fil Ifta) from Jamia Dar Ul Uloom Karachi. He has done MBA with majors in Banking and Finance from ILMA University, Karachi, recognized from HEC. He is also a research Scholar at University of Karachi, pursuing his Ph.D. in Islamic Finance in the light of Quran & Sunnah.

Mufti Muhammad Awais Naeem has a diversified experience of Islamic Banking & Finance, Academia & Halal food. He has worked with Pak-Qatar Takaful Group as Shariah Scholar and was also engaged with Deloitte Yousuf Adil Chartered Accountants as Shariah Audit Consultant for external Shariah Audit of Islamic Banking Institutions in Pakistan. Moreover, he has overall nine ears experience for writing and supervising fatwa on various aspects including Islamic Finance.

Mufti Muhammad Awais Naeem is associated with UBL Ameen since May 2019. Prior to taking charge as Resident Shariah Board Member with effect from July 1, 2021, he has served as Shariah Scholar and Manager Shariah Compliance in Shariah Compliance Department of UBL Ameen.
