Phishing & Identity Theft

Phishing is an attempt to criminally and fraudulently acquire sensitive information, such as usernames, passwords and credit card details, by masquerading as a trustworthy entity in an electronic communication. It is a serious offence and is also known as Identity Theft. Phishing refers to creating an imitation of an existing legitimate Web page or the use of email to trick users into providing sensitive personal information.

How you can protect yourself from Identity Theft?

  • Be suspicious of any urgent requests. Phishing email will try to convey a sense of urgency so that you will act before you think. Common techniques are to say that your account will be deactivated, restored or canceled unless you take immediate action.
  • Avoid filling out forms in emails. The security of email is low.
  • Verify URL of the link given in the email. Never click on any link given in the email to be on the safe side.
  • UBL webpages that warrant customer confidential account information are always secured and start with 'https://' and not http://.
  • Never give out your ATM PIN, Netbanking Transaction PIN, Netbanking Login and Password, and your Email password to anyone or through any electronic medium without verifying the source.
  • Do not open any attachments in the email.
  • Forward the email to and delete it from your inbox.
  • Regularly check your bank account and credit card statements to ensure that all transactions are legitimate. If anything is suspicious, contact us at immediately.
