Verified by Visa - FAQs

What is One-Time Password (OTP)?

OTP is a security feature service for online transactions. When you are transacting online where the merchant site requires OTP before a transaction is processed, it will be sent to your mobile phone via SMS and to your registered email address (e-alerts). You must then enter the OTP to complete the transaction. This service applies only to credit card holders whose mobile phone numbers and email address are registered in the United Bank Limited system.

What are the benefits of OTP?

OTP provides more security as it requires you to go through an authentication process when you are making an online transaction using UBL Visa credit card on a merchant online that has the logo “Verified by Visa”.

Do I need to register my UBL credit card to enable me to enjoy this service?

Registration for OTP is not required however; this service applies only to credit card holders whose mobile phone numbers and email address are already registered in the United Bank Limited system.

Any compatible browser such as Internet Explorer, Microsoft Edge, Apple Safari, Google Chrome, Opera and Mozilla Firefox. Please ensure that you have enabled the pop-up windows in your browser in order to complete your payment with 3D Secure authentication.

How will I know if the website is safe to use?

Look for secure transaction symbols when shopping online to ensure your account information is protected. These include a lock symbol usually found on the right or left side of your browser’s address bar and a web address that begins with “https”. Always sign-out of any website after you make a purchase. If you can’t sign-out, close the browser window and clear your browser’s cache and history to prevent unauthorized access to your account information.
